Garlic Butter String Beans

Hi guys! Natasha from Salt & Lavender here! Thanksgiving is coming up soon, and if you’re looking for a fantastic and simple side dish, this one’s for you (and all the garlic lovers out there).

I fully believe that the simplest dishes with the fewest ingredients are usually the tastiest. This is definitely the case with this recipe. Garlic butter is one of life’s greatest pleasures, in my humble opinion!

What are string beans?

Green beans. They’re also sometimes called French beans.

How do you blanch string beans?

Boil them for 2-3 minutes (they will not be fully cooked through). Drain them and add them to a bowl of ice water to stop the cooking.

Can I use frozen green beans?

Yes.

Garlic Butter String Beans (green beans) are the perfect easy side dish! Everyone will love these delectable tender-crisp string beans. A delicious healthier addition to your table.
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 15 minutes
Total Time: 25 minutes
Servings: 6 people

Ingredients

  • 2 (12 ounce) bags fresh string beans (green beans) ends trimmed
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 4 cloves garlic (minced)
  • Salt & pepper (to taste)

Instructions

  • Boil a salted pot of water for the beans and also prepare a large bowl of cold water with ice cubes. Trim the ends of the beans.
  • Once the water is boiling, add the string beans and cook them for 2-3 minutes. Drain them and add them to the bowl of ice water so they stop cooking (this process is called blanching).
  • Melt the butter in a skillet over medium-high heat. Once the butter is sizzling, stir in the garlic and cook for about 30 seconds.
  • Drain the beans and add them to the skillet. Cook for about 5 minutes, tossing/stirring often, or until the beans are as tender as you like.
  • Season beans with salt & pepper as needed. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Serves 4-6 depending on how much people eat.
  • I use kitchen shears to quickly trim the beans.
  • I prefer using sea salt in this recipe.
